I love Lucienne Day’s designs: seed heads, molecules, plankton, atom-age flying saucers… I don’t care what they are; they just cheer me up. There’s always an implied movement to Day’s patterns; I sometimes get this sense of busy, aerial traffic, like an establishing shot from The Jetsons—or those time-lapse sequences of seeds sprouting very speedily. With all of that playing out in my mind’s eye, I went about making a fun little animation for this week’s Lucienne Day-inspired Kick-About.

    1. Hey Phil, you also chose just the right music! 😊 Following you blog, and a couple others is very uplifting and whilst I doubt my own “artwork” will ever reach great heights, posts like yours open my eyes to different views!

      1. Well, for starters I liked your ‘Lammas bread’ illustration very much: also, a quick spin around your blog tells me you’re a bit of a plantsman (with a fondness for geraniums) – well, me too! 🙂

  3. Sad to have missed this one due to things but WOW Phil! every frame of this could be a poster or tapestry hung in a suitably gorgeous midcentury home.

    1. Hey Big Fella – you were missed, and I expect this one was right up your illustrative street! Thanks for the kind words as always: and yes, I’m just producing some big print-style versions from some of these images – and yes, wishing I was working in textiles!
