Not much to say about these, except for the obvious fact of lifting the idea of Niki de Saint Phalle’s ‘shooting paintings’ by loading a water pistol with acrylic paint and shooting it at short-range at some sheets of paper!

Originally, I thought this was going to be the beginning of producing work for The Kick-About No.87, but the truth is I loved the marks and the colours and the slight sense of a ‘kill scene’ that seemed appropriate, given the apparatus involved.

  1. POW! I love how sporadic it is! I would like to try the method of filling up balloons with paint to form little sacks, attach them to a canvas and throw a load of darts at them.

    1. Indeed – didn’t quite have the space for that, but water balloons were definitely on the shopping list!

  2. It’s interesting to me how many picked up on this technique. I like the results, but that’s not at all how I think of Niki de Saint Phalle’s art. (K)

    1. It was either shooting paint around or building one of those balloon-y, curvaceous sculptures, or … I was tempted to smash up lots of ceramics too and squidge them into something a bit ‘monstrous feminine’ or….

      1. There are always many paths that open up. Unfortunately, we all have time constraints.
